THE JOKER

Check out a work in progress.. He wanted to tell his story and and pay homage to his favorite super villain.

Foggy London Town

Just got back from this years London Convention. A great and busy weekend in good company of friends that we only get to see a few times a year on events like this. That is one of the best things about these conventions, getting to hang with our friends from all over the world. This year we hung with the Uk, Germany, Japan, USA and Sweden. Pretty international if you ask me. Good to see you all again!!

Me and my trusty convention buddy, Chriss Dettmer had prepared a whole bunch of new merch for this convention. It was a big deal for Chriss who the first conventions we did together didn't even have a banner, businesscards or portfolio... not this time!! He had EVERYTHING! Stickers, postcards, many different tshirts, flash, prints and portfolio. Too bad that people wasn't in a big shopping mode as they were the last couple of years. We still sold pretty good but there is still some of our limited prints and shirts and also my new antler lady print left. I will post a blog post about how to buy them and prices and stuff soon.

One thing that really really sucked about this weekend was that we were a lot of artists that was under the impression that the convention was closing late every night...well that was only the bar and the convention closed early like always. This mend that I had to cancel 2 appointments because I wouldn't have been able to finish in time. This really really sucked and I do not like to not be able to keep appointments like this. I hope I do get to do these 2 pieces sometime in Copenhagen and make it up for this.

So here is a the tattoos that I did...eccept for one that didn't turn out so well on the picture...an awesome ape it was...sad...but here is the rest.

LONDON: 09

Tattooing in London went well. Finished up some existing work and started a few freshies. Here's a pile of picks...

Back in SJ now but the London fog seems to have settled into my brain. Let lag is nasty this time. Can barely hear anything. Feel like my mind is at the end of a Jello filled, reverberant hallway.

LONDON: FOODGASM

This place alone is worth the plane ticket. For anyone who thinks there is nothing but bangers and mash to sustain oneself on in the UK... you aint' never been to Busaba Eathai in the SoHo.

And they have some of the most interesting restroom signage I've come across...

Should say stupid American, or stupid foreign person.

Picture 140

美国人 is Chinese for "American".

However 阿呆 (or あほ) is a localize dialect for "fool, jackass" in Japan's Kansai region. Where most Japanese would use 馬鹿 as "stupid". Also, 米囯人 is Japanese for "American".

愚蠢
is correct Chinese for "stupid".
In the latest issue of Wired magazine, there was a piece titled "10 Best Things We'll Say to Our Grandkids".

P1010633

According to the magazine, English translation for #6 is:

"English used to be the dominant language. Crazy, huh?"

Dr. Mair and I both noticed the printed Chinese is not correct.

统治语言 (dominate language), is two English phrases spliced together with an odd sense of colonialism. 官方語言 (official language) or 國際語言 (international language) would be better fitting.

疯狂 does not have the same contextual meaning as "crazy", rather "frenzied, unbridled; insane". In this case, a better phrase would be "傻不傻", or "isn't that silly?"

Perhaps this is a nod to Firefly, where mixture of Chinese Mandarin phrases were added into the show's dialogue.

KEEP IT SIMPLE!

Here is a recent piece on a client from Holland.. He wanted to keep it small and simple for his first tattoo.

Sad sad xmas.

This years London Convention was supposed to be the big xmas party when it came to merch...and it still will be BUT one of the bigger "presents" will be missing. We were supposed to have the skateboards that Chriss Dettmer and I did for Substance Abuse for sale at the convention but things got screwed up and it was too late. There will still be prints with the awesome designs and tshirts (buddy shirts that will form the skull when you guys stand next to each other) and my new satanic antler lady plus free stickers and new cards and shit so there will be stuff to spend money on.

For those of you, who are within travel distance of the shop, there will boards for sale at the shop later on when we figure out how many to get. If any of you want to reserve a board to make sure to get one then please let me know. Same goes if you want both boards, let me know because I won't get as many Chriss boards as my own so it would be nice to have an idea. So until further notice please let me know if you wanna reserve one. You can leave a comment or write to my mail at onkelallan@gmail.com.

For those of you, who can't drop by the shop and buy one you can order it through this page.

More merch news and stuff soon. I am a bit busy working on getting everything ready for London and have also been trying to get as much done on my dirty antler ladies...2 almost done! Keep swinging by!!

RESTORED WITH PRIDE

I was in the San Gabriel Valley today making my rounds through D & D Customs, Mario's Auto Works and Top Stitch checking on all my current projects.. But my first stop was
"The Chevy Shop" in El Monte. I was really impressed by the quality of the finished show cars and the owner Bert and his huge collection of raw Chevrolet's some for restoration and some were parts cars. Bert has recently had five cars featured on the cover of Lowrider Magazine this year and he has a massive collection of hard to find GM accessories. His shop builds cars to show room condition or a custom Lowrider with hydraulics.
They specialize in 1955-1957 Chevy Bel Airs, 1958 - 1964 Impalas. What ever your budget can handle
"The Chevy Shop" has something for you.

VINNIE STYLES

The New York tour ended with a visit from our good friends over at www.vinniesstyles.com Jacob and his Bro came into to continue the collection of sick Tattoos. Good Bye NY and we will be back in NOV to kill it for 2 weeks !! keep up.

About time

It surely was about time that we finished this piece started almost a year ago. Well that's what happens when both the customer and the tattooer is busy all the time. We might come back and add a bit here and there when he decides what to get on the inside, above and next to it.

A big congratulation (in advance) and good luck with the baby!! When ever it happens. All the best from us!!

This next piece took a bit longer than we had expected. The first two sessions were really tough and frustrating because he bled a lot...really!! The session where we did all the black shading was a battle against the blood. In the end I had to throw in the towel after a way to short session and leave it with only black shading. That was why I was a bit concerned before this last session. For reason not clear to me we managed to put in all the rest of the colours...almost 7 hours and therefore a new trooper is added to the HALL OF FAME. Good job!!

BLOODWORK: PROCESSES

Here are couple marked up comps done shortly after the photo shoots were completed. This preproduction was a process of conveying what needed to be done, working out the kinks, streamlining, & modulating the work flow.
BloodWork: Sleeves: Comps

There's piles of these marked up photos. Decided not to include the ones with obscenities and degrading remarks of frustration.

TAYLOR NOT SO SWIFT!

I was in New York City watching the VMa's Live.. I thought Russel Brand was funny and different but by the looks of the faces in the crowd, I could tell he went over everyones head.. Lady Gaga is dope especially her Christmas wreath face mask. Thank God someone is original! Beyonce once again killed it and shook every R&B chick watching (except Mary J. Blige).. I thought it was funny when Kanye West jumped up on stage, cause he disrupted a boring moment. He was correct in saying that Beyonce should have won, but his Ego and Timing over shadowed the Truth. Taylor Swift needs to stay at the Country Music Awards cause she has no Swag, Rhythm, or Street smarts to survive a simple altercation . My 4yr old Daughter would have not let him walk away with out saying "My Daddy is going to kick your ass..." She should have told him" Don't be mad at me, You should be mad at that barber who cut your hair.." Taylor Swift isn't so swift, she stiffed. Seventeen or not Taylor came off ungrateful and selfish for Not Thanking Beyonce for doing something she didn't have too. Thanks Jay Z and Alicia Keys for the Hottest song of the Year. Unfortunately for us the Night was ruined by Corn Ball, No hit having," Lil Mama".. Thank God Jay turned his back to her. I think she jumped on stage cause she thinks she is miss New York, but miss NY moved to Hollywood for a measly check. If Kanye would have not jumped on stage, no one would have been talkin about it. God Bless Alicia Keys and H.O.V the God..
