I arrived yesterday evening in New York, Chilled the whole evening on the Brooklyn rooftop enjoying the view, my friends and the warm weather! So right now I'm getting all settled in, have to take a shower and go to the duane reade to get a few essentials... and hopefully take some shots stepping out :) I just got some more photos from my camera, I was so busy packing this weekend I didn't even get a change to look at them until now!!

I'm really into the metallic foils so this dress was instant love to me :) and I'm totally loving the faux fox tail!!

TRAILER OF THE WEEK

<

If you dont know who you are going to go see this film with, you better get it together.
It will be in theaters in 7days.

New York New York

I'm flying tomorrow morning back to New York, need to pack, haha, I'm always a last minute packer and forget half the things I need to pack.. and yes that was three times the word pack in a sentence...

Its so funny how you miss things that you didn't expect missing... I couldn't sleep last night thinking about how I suddenly realized I really have missed the vegetable dumplings at rice in Nolita...

ps. Listening to the song "New York New York" by the Gremlins

pps. I think "Jenny" from "Forrest Gump" is one of my Style Icons

ppps. The photos are all found on WEHEARTIT, I love that site although its a bit slow and kind of hard to find out to who to credit the pictures too!!!

subject: Kanji translations

Hey there! I totally LOVE your blog!

ok, so I have 2 different Kanji tattoos. I researched them myself, and was after the Japanese meanings of the characters. I didn't trust a tattoo shop book for either one. The fire/Ice tattoo is supposed to me "to be devoted". The kanji is composed out of the negative space. I was after a verb form, and I am most worried about this one.

Tell me I did it right!! Otherwise, back to the needle I go!

Thanks,

A

Granted this tattoo intended to be read from Japanese perspective, but 沒頭 literally means "no head" in Chinese, in other words "lack of common sense".

Alan has the following to add:

The tattoo is evidently 没頭る, which appears to be a "slangy" way of writing the Japanese verb "hamaru" which in itself is a slang way to say "be a fan of," "be absorbed in" or maybe "be devoted to" something like a rock band or a manga or some other pop culture phenomenon.

Originally, the verb hamaru was written 嵌る or 填る (or sometimes ハマる), but evidently due to the influence of the noun 没頭 [bottō], which means "devotion to" or "absorption in" something, people started writing the word like 没頭る but still pronouncing it hamaru. Perhaps one reason why people started writing the word with these new characters is because both of the old ones and were removed from common use in Japanese.

This use of different characters to write words is called 当て字 (ateji) in Japanese. These 当て字 can be used on a whim and there are no particular rules except what becomes popular.

Without common sense, indeed!

subject: My husband's old tattoo!

I stumbled across your blog and have had a great time reading it!!

My husband is an unfortunate teenage tattoo victim. He very proudly displays this tattoo on his shoulder blade which he swears means "dragon". However I've looked up the character for dragon and it is nothing like his tattoo!

Does his tattoo have any meaning or is it an attack of gibberish?

Thank you!

Sarah

represents the fifth zodiac year which happens to be "the year of dragon", not the actual dragon. However the tattooed character has an unnecessary extra bit at left upper corner.

Dragon is typically (or 龙) in Chinese, and in Japanese.

Wisteria

Wisteria Wedges; TopShop, Knitted Dress; Storets

Yes, forgetting to remove the price tag stickers from under your shoes is a fashion faux-pas I guess... its actually really really trashy, so typically me...

Honestly this must be my pet peeve, if I see really well put together girls walking on the street with the stickers still under the shoe it makes me want to stop them to remove them, so it figures that me myself is guilty as charged :)
and to make matters worse I kind of really like it on the photo with this look!

As for the black knitted dress there is another big no no, that is; to use your sweater/dress as a comfy/crawl-in/sleeping-back-kind-of sloppy tv-watching blanket thing and then after wards stepping out in it:) ... Yes I like to actually crawl in the dress, pulling it all over my knees while I'm curled down on the sofa, so it really lost its shape; sloppy flabber dress..

... but that doesn't mean that we can't tattoo people who work for Nasa designing their fancy moooon stuff. More about that day later. I think Amalie has something lined up for later.

First Tattoo (tattoos?)

This guy is an old customer of mine. Waaaaay back. Now he came back and got himself a nice little Bier mädchen. He is from Germany after all and does like big boobs and bier and who am I to refuse him that!

Did these two pieces a earlier this year. Just never got a picture of them.

I have been waiting almost 2 hours for my old Iphone to get updated so I can change it to my new iphone 4 and start playing with it. Well I guess that will be tomorrow since it is late now here in Denmark.

More crazy tattoos to come and a finished painting too soon!
