Alan forwarded me a link to a British apparel company called Superdry.

We are certainly not experts on the subject of brandnaming, but "Superdry" automatically equates to anti-perspirant or deodorant in the world of marketing (Back us up on this, Steve!).

The phrase 極度乾燥(しなさい) is very strange in Japanese, especially with しなさい in parentheses.

It seems like someone was told to translate “Superdry” into Japanese, but the translator could not decide whether it is supposed to be an adjective meaning “extremely dry” or a sentence meaning “dry extremely well” so they just fudged it and left the imperative form しなさい [shinasai] in parentheses, indicating their uncertainty.

It is just so random that this uncertain translation was immortalized in the logo without any subsequent editing.

Tits and toads

Well...frog actually but that doesn't rhyme on tits.
Here is what I did today.

Frog...funny, pretty colors.




Did all the colors on Lars' sea slut. She is luring in all the danish sailors so the huge octopus (to be inserted on the other side) can feast on them. In the background you can spot an old Danish wreck. The colors look a bit funny in the picture due to all the wiping of different colors but it will look good later and I promised Lars to post a picture anyway and since it is his Birthday he gets what he wants...well a picture on the blog anyway! I will try to get a better picture later.

FULL METAL JACKET

This is no regular skull, trip out on the helmet with the bullets and cigarette pack in the band..

Dia De Los Muertos

Today I finished two tattoos both with Mexican skulls. Finishing colors on top of old black always makes it hard to get a good picture so this will do until I see them both again in a month time or so. I was actually supposed to do 2 more mexican skulls tomorrow (on the same guy) but he had to cancel. Too bad! It could have been DAYS of the dead.

SLAP SHOT

Matt likes hockey. Goes without sayin' right? He collects some of the most random hockey inspired tattoos I've ever seen done. It doesnt matter what it is. From my slightly perplexed viewpoint, if you like hockey enough, maybe a third as much as he does, and if you can keep up with him on his cerebral escapades, he'll probably ask you to do a hockey inspired tattoo on him. Couple days ago Josh and Heather came by Analog. They're fun to hang out with. Talk about Dan tatt's n' stuff. Matt got the bug and asked Josh to trade hockey tattoos with him. Figure this one out...

International Trooper Week

This week I had 3 customers from other countries who all came to claim the highly regarded title of "TROOPER".

First we had Mike from New Zealand who ended up lasting almost or maybe full 8 hours. I was a bit stressed because I wanted to go see my friend, Jacob, sing for the first time in his new band, The Kandidate. Well I didn't make that in time but we did finish the tattoo.



Second was Mark from Germany. We didn't finish the tattoo that ended up beeing a bit bigger than we had expected so noooo hard feelings there. Since we only almost finished there won't be any picture of that one this time...sorry Mark you will have to wait with your internet fame till we are done.

Last but not least we had Tim who also were from Germany. After 6 long hours of pain and squirming we finished 1st half of the lower arm that I am gonna do on him. Second half will be done when we come back from California in June.



Since they all lasted longer than 6 hours they all earned the title of "trooper". Good job guys!!! Well done...Splendid indeed!!

The award for Customer Of The Week gotta go to Mike though. He came all the way from New Zealand. Lasted 8 hours without complaining and left one hell of a tip even though I stressed him out the door to try to catch a show. Thanks for understanding buddy!!

NOTHIN' BUT A G THANG!

The "West Coast DON" Big Snoop Dogg and his son Spank, came through to blessed the studio and chop it up for hours.. His knowledge of classic soul oldies, west coast hip hop,street life fatherhood is incredible. I met a lot of big stars and Snoop is by far the biggest gentleman.
In the past we have worked on his videos, album packaging and designed his current Logo.

The top character may intended to be 大 (large or great), however it is the wrong character, 丈.

In Japanese, 大帝 refers to a "great emperor", which does not mean Christian God. 神様 is used when referring to the Christian God. Other words for God are 主 (literally "the Lord") and 天主 ("the Lord in Heaven").

上帝 is used in Chinese when referring to Christian God. 真主 and 阿拉 typically used for Allah, the Islamic name for God. Funny thing is that 阿拉 means "we" or "I" in Shanghai dialect.

大帝, 玉帝, and 玉皇 are variants of 玉皇大帝, Jade Emperor, from Chinese Taoism mythology. The Goa'uld System Lord Yu from Stargate SG-1 is based on this. Ironically the production company did not cast a Chinese actor for this role, rather Vincent Crestejo.

The verb 裁く [sabaku] does mean "to judge" and 僕 [boku] is a common word that Japanese males refer to themselves, meaning "me" or "I". 裁 means "to cut" in Chinese and sometimes it is associated with tailoring. 僕 means only "servant" in Chinese.

But unfortunately, the grammar and word order of the sentence 大帝裁僕 is not proper for Japanese, so it looks sort of "Chinese" to a Japanese person. A Japanese person could possibly try to read it in 漢文 style, giving the sentence:

大帝は僕を裁く [Taitei ha boku wo sabaku.]

The character 僕 is also read "shimobe" meaning manservant, so the phrase could also mean:

"The great emperor judges the manservant"

or

"The great emperor's tailor"

It doesn't really mean what it is supposed to mean, in either Japanese or Chinese.

Reconstruction

We have been rebuilding our work room in the apartment all weekend. New furniture was bought and some mounted on our walls. Bigger task than it sounds. You can drill one place and it is like the hardest rock known to man and then the next will be like cutting through butter with a laserbeam...and we all know how easy that is!!!

Well all this building has left me with little time to blog or do anything else but I will post a picture of our Brit of The Week, Greg. We started what will end up as a sleeve. This time we did one patch on the lower and stated the upper arm. More will be added this december.

Here is picture of the Ice Cream Truck getting lifted in the Nike Blue House for the Release of the 2005 Cartoon Collection Airforce 1's.. Putting it in to the house was not easy task. Nike engineers had to come out and take out the whole side of the house facing Venice beach...
Since then the Ice Cream Truck has had the interior re done and the top has been candy painted and flaked....

I have received several emails from readers to inform me about one webisode from NBC's The Office.





In the video, Andy Bernard made an announcement that claimed his tattoo is "nard dog".

Although it is not exactly "nard dog", "n 狗" (n dog) is close enough.
